Install JMO Workflow

A step-by-step guide for Claude Code in your terminal.

Before you start

New to Claude Code? Follow the official setup link above for your operating system, then return here.

Check Claude Code and sign in

Open Terminal on macOS/Linux, or PowerShell on Windows. Check that Claude Code is installed:

Terminal
claude --version

If you see a version number, continue. If the command is not found, finish the official setup and reopen your terminal.

If you have not signed in yet, run:

Terminal
claude

Follow the sign-in prompts. When you reach Claude Code, type /exit to return to your normal terminal prompt.

Add the JMO marketplace

Run this in your normal terminal, outside an active Claude Code session:

Terminal
claude plugin marketplace add 23jmo/jmo-skills

This adds Johnathan’s GitHub-hosted marketplace. No manual download or file copying is needed.

Install the workflow plugin

After the marketplace command finishes, run:

Terminal
claude plugin install jmo-workflow@jmo-skills

The plugin is jmo-workflow. The marketplace is jmo-skills. The default installation applies to your user account across projects on this computer.

Open your project and check the plugin

Open a terminal in the project folder you want Claude to work on, then run claude. Close and reopen any Claude Code sessions that were already running when you installed.

Inside Claude Code, enter:

Inside Claude Code
/plugin

Open Installed and check that jmo-workflow is enabled.

Run your first skill

Inside Claude Code, enter the full namespaced command:

Inside Claude Code
/jmo-workflow:interview

Describe what you want to build and answer the questions. The skill helps turn your idea into an implementation specification in your project’s .plans/ folder.

Commands beginning with / go inside Claude Code. Commands beginning with claude go in your normal terminal.

You’re set. You can also try /jmo-workflow:ste for technical explanations, or /jmo-workflow:better-ui for interface improvements.

If something doesn’t work

Optional service plugins and the Codex handoff have separate setup requirements. They are not required for the installation above. See the repository for those instructions.
